Biography
Eric R. Brown has practiced law in the greater Sacramento area for more than three decades and brings a distinguished and wide-ranging career to his role as Of Counsel at Gary, Till, Burlingham, Lynch, & Ricafort. A native of Orange County, California, Mr. Brown earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo in 1979. Upon graduating, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps and completed Officer's Basic Training in Quantico, Virginia. He subsequently attended flight training at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, where he earned his wings as a Naval Aviator in 1981, flying CH-53 helicopters with the Third Marine Aircraft Wing in El Toro, California, in support of infantry units throughout the western United States, Okinawa, Korea, and Japan. Mr. Brown served on active duty until 1985 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain.
Following his military service, Mr. Brown attended McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific in Sacramento, California, where he earned his Juris Doctor in 1988. He has practiced in a variety of litigation and transactional settings throughout his career, including general civil litigation, medical malpractice defense, and business litigation representing financial institutions in state and federal courts at all phases including pre-trial, trial, and appellate proceedings. Mr. Brown also operated his own practice focused on estate planning, trust administration, business entity organization, and civil litigation. He later joined the California Franchise Tax Board in 2006, where he served as a Senior Tax Counsel and hearing officer handling personal taxpayer protests and appeals involving individual, business entity, and multistate tax disputes.
Mr. Brown's practice at Gary, Till, Burlingham, Lynch, & Ricafort draws on this broad foundation of litigation experience and tax law knowledge to provide clients with thoughtful, seasoned counsel. Currently, Mr. Brown’s practice concentrates on representation of individuals and small business owners in estate planning, probate, and trust administration matters, as well as business organization and maintenance. He is admitted to the State Bar of California and all federal courts in California, including the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.
In his personal life, Mr. Brown resides in Carmichael, California, with his wife Sheila and their two children. He has also served his community through his appointment to the Military Service Academies Nomination Committee under the Honorable Congressman Daniel E. Lungren, participating in the selection of high school seniors for admission to the United States Military Service Academies from 2003 to 2012.
Mr. Brown has been a lifelong sports fan, and loves to travel to major sports events, such as Major League Baseball playoff and World Series games, PGA Golf tournaments, and even World Cup Soccer events. He enjoys hiking, camping, and bicycling, and is also a certified firearms instructor. He claims his Christian faith as his most valuable asset, is a regular church-attender, and has led a Bible study group for 20 years.
